The "Dow" refers to the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the average size of 30 important parts of the United States. The second-oldest U.S. stock index is often listed in the S & P 500 in the Financial Summary.

The main purpose of the Dow is an overview of the entire U.S. stock market. But with only thirty companies, on average, can not be the perfect representation of the market. However, the index is an important and popular for more than one hundred years.

If the Dow Jones had risen to 150 points, which means that if at 10,150.00 yesterday’s closing price, fell from 10.000,00. This represents an increase of 1.5 percent.

Companies included
some companies are already among the longest in the Dow, GE (1907), ExxonMobil (1928 Standard Oil), 3M (1976), IBM (1979) and McDonald (1985). Some other popular companies such as Boeing, Coca-Cola, Walt Disney, Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Microsoft.

The investment in Dow
Even if you do not act directly on the Dow, because it is only average, it is possible by other means, including buying some of the companies in the index or trading in ETFs and mutual funds included in the Dow.

Dow first published in 1896 in 40.94; with only twelve companies hit an all time low was 28.48 years. All-time high of 14,164.53 at the end of October 9, 2007.
